    u can not compare paul octopus with u r as called "popat". the octopus had the prediction which r accurate.i think the only thing that matters is the result if u r "popat" can predict in the right way then people will also admire him or her whatever .
    and if u want to know why people r believe on such non sense then there r such conditions in our life when we want something very desperatly & we can't do anything then normally everyone want this type of stuff.

  2. i think depending upon a fortune teller is fine till a limit but finally one has to lead his life on his own... the octopus or parrot things are just a matter of luck i guess...
    so according to me..yes..use the fortune teller as a guideline and not as the finaly goal....

  3. Even the best of statistician cannot predict future 100%.
    Randomness is the part of life
    The octopus should have been given the same flags 10 times and then find out if everytime he goes for the same flag.
    If he had gone for the same flag 10 times during each map then the statisticians would have been dumbfounded as according to the law of Averages, he was bound to make mistakes.
    So I think just lets enjoy the octopus predictions and dont drill down too much into it
